The Milam County Commissioners Court met at the county courthouse on June 23 with Judge Bill Whitmire presiding. Public comments were heard, and two main topics dominated the discussion: a proposed cryptocurrency mining facility on FM 486 near Thorndale and concerns about conditions on County Roads 418 and 204B.
Small Town Thorndale is being adorned in red, white and blue this July 4th. An effort is underway to have an American flag flying at all 270 homes inside the city. The hometown lumber and hardware store, Thorndale Lumber Company, made a flag kit available at a special discounted price. The kit includes a flag, post, bracket and screws for $31.00. To date, 15 flag kits have been donated for installation. Police Chief Scott Roberson assisted in recommending homes to install donated flags. Dustin Geter, Thorndale Lumber Co. manager and Duane Kuhl, a local resident, install flags. A final push this last week will be made to encourage residents to buy their flag kits. For those homes who have not made a purchase by July 4th, small flags will be placed in front of their homes by a generous donor.
A Rockdale man remains at large after leading law enforcement on a vehicle and foot pursuit in Milam County on Friday, June 20. According to the Milam County Sheriff’s Office, a deputy initiated a traffic stop on Colby Martinez, who is currently on parole. During the stop, Martinez fled in his vehicle before abandoning it and continuing on foot into a wooded area near County Road 470.
TURKEY AND DRESSING FUNDRAISER The Thorndale Ladies Firemen Auxiliary will be hosting a Turkey and Dressing fundraiser dinner on Saturday June 28th in conjunction with the 34th annual Thorn dale Fireman’s BBQ cook off inside the Thorndale Fireman’s Hall. Serving will begin at 11am. Plates will be $15. each with desserts available for a free will offering. See you there!
