RogueTrippen – The Kid Gets It All
High on my list for favorite movies of all time is Secondhand Lions. One of the main characters in that story, Robert Duvall, passed away last week. Duvall was an icon of the big screen and one of my favorite actors ever since the first time I watched Lonesome Dove as a kid, where he portrayed Texas Ranger Captain Gus McCrae. Gus was perhaps one of the most lovable, heroic and ultimately tragic characters ever crafted from the mind of iconic Western author Larry McMurtry, who wrote the novel more as an indictment of the harsh times and people of the Old West and was surprised at its popularity. No doubt Westerns have gotten more “revisionist” over the years — that is to say, more accurate — with Eastwood’s Unforgiven and Sheridan’s prequels to Yellowstone.
