The “Tax Offices” in Milam County

When I hold general town hall meetings, I ask folks to give me the issues that are their biggest concern. Inevitably, Taxes and Water are in the top three or four issues they are concerned about. Ironically, the offices that regulate or control these two offices aren’t all that well understood or even known. With the mass proliferation of legislation in the last 20 to 30 years concerning these topics, it’s easy to understand the complexity and misunderstandings surrounding the regulation of these two issues. So today I thought I would attempt to address the tax side of the house and how that works.

Milam County Grand Jury Indictments

The Milam County Grand Jury returned 48 indictments as True Bills during the months of July and August 2025. No cases were dismissed as “No Bills.” The following individuals were indicted: Brandon James Cornwell, 42, of Thorndale, was indicted on two counts of third-degree felony possession of a controlled substance (1–4 grams). Marcos Manuel Salucio, 30, of Rockdale, was indicted for second-degree felony attempted arson. Jeremiah Oropez, 18, of Taylor, was indicted for state jail felony unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and third-degree felony evading with a vehicle. Antonio Vargas Jr., 41, of Rockdale, was indicted for first-degree felony aggravated robbery. Maikel Perez Torres, 41, of Rockdale, was indicted for firstdegree felony aggravated sexual assault of a child.
