Lady Dogs clinch District 25-2A championship with win over Granger

The No. 14 Thorndale Lady Dogs (23-3, 10-0) clinched the District 25-2A championship with a 58-15 win on the road at Granger on Tuesday night. This is the 17th consecutive season that the team has reached the playoffs under head coach Bradley Dickerson. The Lady Dogs stand alone at the top of the league standings with Hearne sitting in second. Milano, Holland and Thrall are fighting for the final two playoff spots. In the win at Granger, Thorndale jumped out early, leading 17-2 after the first quarter. The Lady Dogs were up 36-4 at halftime. The Lions held Thorndale to just eight points in the third period, but the Lady Dogs lead was too much to overcome. Three Thorndale players scored in double digits on the night. Elise Biar scored 16 points for the Lady Dogs, with Landry Laywell adding 12. Laywell made four three-pointers in the contest. Savana Taylor made 11 points. Jordyn Smith added six points, while Madison Smith and Kelsey Kovar put up five each. Sierra Winkler recorded two points and Makayla Lafferty contributed one. The Lady Dogs hosted Holland on Friday night at Bulldog Gym, swatting the Lady Hornets 72-25. Thorndale led 25-10 after the first period and 42-18 by halftime. A trio of Lady Dogs scored in double digits against Holland. Biar led the way with 18 points, followed by Taylor with 15 and Madison Smith

14. Ariana Anders and Winkler scored seven points apiece, with Ashley Pesl and Kiera Rash recording four points each. Lafferty recorded two points and Jordyn Smith contributed one. Thorndale will host Mumford on Friday night in the final home game of the season for the Lady Dogs. They will finish up league play on Tuesday at Milano.
