COMMUNITY Keeping up with the Thorndale Exes

What a great week among our exes. Lots of contacts and that’s what we are all about. Had a phone call from neighbor, Geraldine Biar, Class of 1957, and we had a great visit. She saw a new mailbox on the corner ofour lawn and thought we were really bad off to not be able to go get our mail at the post office. She knows how my Leroy enjoys visiting when he goes each morning to pick up our mail. It’s not our mailbox and we didn’t know anything about it. Leroy will still go to the post office and visit. But, it made us have a nice phone visit. Seems the Class of 1969 is going to have a 50th Class Reunion this year. Had a call from Larry Fisher, Class of 1969, asking for a class roster and he says just contact him if you have any questions. He picked up his class roster and we always hope they have a great turn out at these reunions. His mailing address is P.O. Box 81, Thorndale, TX 76577; e-mail address is lfisher@austin.rr.com; and his phone number is (512) 898-2616. When we get more information, we will surely pass it on. Noticed in the paper the rankings of the Milam County schools. By numbers and grades, they are: Thorn-dale 83, B; Milano 80, B; Cameron 77, C; Rockdale 74, C; Buckholts 77, Met Standard; and Gause 81, Met Standard. Don’t understand the Met Standard part, but this was the rankings in the paper. Makes our little school look good, right? Thanks to the Rockdale paper for these numbers. Brenda Westerman Johnson, Class of 1978, has been e-mailing back and forth with me. She let us know that Molly Flores Romayor, Class of 1978, had her invitation to their class reunion returned undeliverable as addresses. They met yesterday, Saturday, Jan. 26, at Apache Pass. Maybe she will let us know more afterwards and we hope they have a great time at their 40th Class Reunion. Noticed a picture on Facebook of a good crowd of ladies from that class. There was a nice colored picture in the paper of exes son, Syd Youngblood, swearing in a new board member to the Post Oak Savannah Groundwater Conservation Board. He is the son of Bette Lee Graham Youngblood, Class of 1954 of Cameron. Had a phone call from Mary Ann Garner Hill, Class of 1953, of Canyon Lake. We talked a long time as we hadn’t visited in a good while. Before she semiretired, she was Professor and Dean of Students at West Texas A&M university. She played and coached basketball at Cisco Community College and Clarendon where she met her late and dear husband, Bill Hill. She has just been inducted into the Class of 2018 Athletic Hall of Champions. What a thrill and we send her our congratulations. Many thanks for the call, Mary Ann. On the Dean’s Honor Roll at The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor during the Fall Semester was Hunter Towery, Class of 2017. To be awarded with this honor a student has to earn a grade point average of 3.5 to 3.85 based on a four-point scale. Our congratulations to Hunter. Hadn’t seen or heard much from the Town and Country Club in a good while. My mom was a member and really loved it. There was a nice picture in the paper of a group with the newly elected officers. They included: exes mom, Lucy Hilton; Patsy Hengst Palm, Class of 1971; exes sister-in-law, Laura Gibson; exes mom, Ethel Seelig, hostess; ex-teacher and exes wife, Mara McDowell, their new secretary; exes mom and exes wife, Darleen Tucker, new president; exes mom, Margaret Street; Rosemary Lawrence, new treasurer; and exes wife, Peggy Weise. Now for a little Amish wisdom as there’s not enough room for our longer memories: He who praises himself will be humiliated. The heaviest burden is an empty pocket. When a fool goes shopping, the storekeepers rejoice. Loans will get you moans. The tongue is a persons greatest enemy. We can be found on the web at www.thorndale.txed.net or you can e-mail locojo@austin.rr.com. You can call 512-787-2072 or you can write to Thorndale Ex-Students Association, P. O. Box 393, Thorndale, TX 76577. We love to hear from our exes.
