November Notes: Cozy Reads for a Season of Gratitude at Library

One of my favorite months of the year is November. It is the perfect transition between the vibrant activity of the fall harvest season and the stillness of winter. The leaves begin to change; wildlife prepares for the colder months while the days grow shorter. It is also a month of reflection and gratitude, with holidays like Día de los Muertos, Veterans Day, and Thanksgiving. The shorter days and cooler temperatures give us a reason to slow down and enjoy cozy indoor activities. To me, there’s never a bad time to read, but there is something special about being wrapped up in a cozy blanket with a cup of tea and a good book that makes my heart happy.

100 Years of Halloween at Oxsheer Smith House in Cameron

Generations of children growing up in Cameron fondly remember going to the big red brick house on Jackson Street for trick-or-treating. As kids, we all knew it as one of the houses in town that generously handed out fullsized candy bars. This year marks the 100th anniversary of giving out “the big candy bars” to the little ghosts and goblins of Cameron.
