Cameron Lions collect over $5,000 for foundation

The Cameron Lions Club recently participated in a fundraiser for the Lions Club International Foundation. The Lions Club International Foundation was created to support and enhance the efforts of Lions Clubs through humanitarian projects, strategic partnerships and grants to give hope to local communities and the world. Created in 1968 it has supported over 13,000 grants totaling more than $1 billion. It is a global foundation with donations coming from Lions Clubs all over the world. All donations go to fund these projects. LCIF supports grants for disasters. Their first in the United States was in 1972 for flooding in South Dakota, others like the Asian tsunami, earthquakes and the tsunami in Japan; wildfires in Bastrop; hurricane relief for Houston, New Orleans, and the Key West area in Florida. These are just a few. LCIF partners with other organizations like Special Olympics International to provide vision screenings for athletes, the World Health Organization to combat global child blindness and combat measles. Its First Sight Project prevents serious vision loss, combating river blindness and providing cataract surgeries for people in need. They have also teamed up with Habitat for Humanity and have built over 1,000 homes. In addition, they have also provided positive learning experiences to more than 16 million children in over 100 countries through the Lions Quest project. The number of projects is astounding and very worthwhile. In September 2018 the Cameron Lions Club decided to make a difference and started a campaign to collect donations to support the Lions Club International Foundation. The original goal was to raise $1,000 by December. However, this goal was reached within the first month, so the goal was expanded to $5,000. Through the generous efforts of Lions Club members and local businesses in Cameron the club was able to collect $5,450 by the end of December. Cameron Lions Club would like to thank the following for their generous donations: Lions Teri Adcox, James Anderle, Neil Bhakta, Janet Crouch, Kevin Crouch, Kyle Deal, Matt Feggestad, Pat Foster, Ashley Fuchs, Dorothy Fuchs, Gary Fuchs, Mikaela Fuchs, Monroe Fuchs, Nathan Fuchs, Stephen Fuchs, Susan Fuchs, Maurice Goza, Cheryl Heller, Dwight Jekel, Glenn Laurence, Shirley Miller Lee, Robken Lingan, Melanie Reed, Monica Schiller, Mark Stroud, Julie Sulak and Steve Young.
