Cameron City Council Approves Permits, Tables Street Project Decision
The Cameron City Council met April 6 at City Hall and worked through an agenda that included public hearings, subdivision requests, street project discussion and routine financial items.
The council approved minutes from the March 16 meeting before holding a series of public hearings on special use permits for HUD Code manufactured homes at 405 South Orchard Avenue, 907 North Jefferson Avenue and 305 North Bowie Avenue. Applicants present stated they had met all city requirements, and the council approved each permit following its respective hearing.
Public hearings were also held for two short-form subdivision requests. The council approved the Garcia Addition at 1001 North Jefferson Avenue with little discussion. A second request for the Schattle-Peschel Addition at 1001 East 10th Street was also approved, addressing discrepancies between existing structures and surveyed property lines and bringing setbacks into compliance.
Council members revisited discussion of street project bids tied to the Highway 163 corridor. As outlined in a previous meeting, options include varying overlay depths along with associated costs and infrastructure adjustments such as raising valves and manholes. Members again expressed concerns about funding sources, budget impact and whether underlying road conditions should be addressed before proceeding. The item was tabled for further review, continuing a delay first made during the February meeting.
The council approved expenditures and the January 2026 financial report. Members noted increased activity but discussed a smaller financial cushion compared to previous periods.
With no further business, the meeting adjourned.
