JAMES RAY SOLOMON JAN. 26, 1949 – FEB. 14, 2026

The funeral services will be held at First Assembly of God Church in Davilla, Texas, on Thursday, Feb. 19. Visitation will be from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., with the funeral service beginning at 11:30 a.m. at the same location. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Cameron. A small gathering at the family home will follow for those who wish to attend.

James Ray Solomon has finally cast his line into the ultimate fishing experience, standing shoulder to shoulder with the ultimate Fisherman — Jesus Christ, his Lord and Savior. No tangled lines, no storms, just perfect peace, still waters and a joy beyond anything this world could offer. We imagine him smiling, rod in hand, telling stories and feeling completely at home at last.

James was a man who knew how to work hard, love deeply and enjoy life’s simple blessings. He carried a quiet strength, a steady presence and a sense of humor that showed up when you least expected it. Whether sharing stories, offering help without being asked or simply being there, James made those around him feel safe, valued and loved.

He was preceded in death by his son, James Ray Solomon Jr.; his sister, Rebecca Lakin; and his stepfather, Ward “Smokey” Owens.

Above all, James cherished his family. He leaves behind the love of his life, his beautiful wife, Sherron Truelove Solomon; his daughters, Sandy Watts, Trixie Campbell and husband Christopher, Tina Solomon and Shawn Trull; his sisters, Carolyn Eixman and Debbie Pendergraff; his brother, Billy Ray Solomon; 13 grandchildren; 19 greatgrandchildren; and one greatgreat- grandson.

He will be profoundly missed by his beloved wife, who walked beside him through life’s seasons, and by his children and grandchildren, who were his pride and joy. His legacy of love continues through generations — reaching all the way to his first great-greatgrandson, a living reminder that James’ life made a lasting impact far beyond his years.

Though our hearts feel the weight of his absence, we take comfort in knowing he is whole, healed and home. His faith is now sight. His hope is fulfilled. And his love remains with us — woven into every memory, every laugh and every story told.

Until we meet again, James Ray … Save us a spot by the water and a seat at God’s table.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that, if you feel inclined, donations be made toward funeral expenses through Mark Burns Laywell Funeral Home. Contributions may be made online or through the Go-FundMe account established by the family.
