EUGENE STANLEY VANSA

JUNE 17, 1934 – MAY 1, 2025

Eugene Stanley Vansa born June 17, 1934 in Silver City (a small community NE of Cameron, Texas) to Frank Vansa and Louise Sustek Vansa.

Throughout his early years he helped his Daddy and Mama farm, and served in the Texas National Guard. He was drafted into the U.S. Army where he served and earned an Honorable Discharge. After the Army he continued to farm with his parents in Maraksville, Texas. He met and married Verna Sommer on August 19, 1961 in Cameron, Texas.

He worked at Walled Lake Door Company for 30 years. He was always working around the house, either planting a garden, working in the yard or fixing something. He couldn’t keep still for long. After he retired from Walled Lake he mowed lawns and even took care of St. Monica’s Cemetery and grounds.

He was a member of St. Cyril & Methodius Catholic Church of Maraksville, Texas until 1961 and then he became a member of St. Mónica’s Catholic Church for over 60 years. He was a man of faith. He loved the Lord with all his heart and soul.

Eugene Vansa, better known to family as “Paw Paw” passed away suddenly on May 1, 2025 at Focus Care of Cedar Bayou in Baytown, Texas.

He was preceded in death by his wife Verna Vansa, son Bobby Talafuse, brothers Joe Frank and Alfred Vansa, sister Dorothy Mueck and his father and mother.

He is survived by a son, Gary Talafuse and wife Carolyn of Buckholts, Texas and a daughter, Brenda Litton and husband Trace of Wallisville, Texas. Grandchildren: Rhonda Talafuse of Buckholts, Texas, Sherry Talafuse Wood and husband Jeremy of Temple, Texas, Gary Talafuse II of Cameron, Texas, Robert Talafuse and wife Megan of Rosebud-Lott, Texas, Brett Duncan and wife Kelsey of Portsmouth, Virginia, Brock Duncan and wife Megan of Houston, Texas, Bryce Duncan and wife Chelsey of Humboldt, Iowa.

Great Grandchildren: Megan, Chris and Caleb Lopez; Hailee, Ashlyn and Kambrie Talafuse; Tyler, Lindsay, and Jana Lee Talafuse; Deacon and Everett Duncan; Cole and Emma Duncan; Maya and Layla Duncan.

Great Great Grandchildren: Alexander Lopez and Alaia Pyatt Siblings: Evelyn Bravenec of Temple, Texas; Billy Vansa and wife Evelyn of Temple, Texas; and Margie Sommer of New Caney, Texas. Nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
