Yoe High Welcomes New NHS Members, Adds to Wall of Honor
C.H. Yoe High School recognized both current students and distinguished contributors during a National Honor Society induction ceremony held April 1, marking a significant addition to the school’s long-standing Wall of Honor.
Ten students were inducted into the National Honor Society, including Jessica Alvarez Flores, Amarion Avdic, Andrew Castillo, Kyla Cox, Jocelyn Fuentes Morua, Nakiya Keen, Adara Lewis, Rebecca Selthofer, Emma Villalon and Katelyn Wells.
The ceremony also marked the first time since 2007 that new names have been added to the school’s Wall of Honor, a space located at the entrance to the auditorium that recognizes individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the school, community or achieved distinction at the national or international level.
This year’s Wall of Honor inductees include Oscar John Thomas, as well as Rodrick and Chris Holcombe. Members of the Holcombe family were present for the ceremony and are pictured with their plaque. Thomas, school officials noted, no longer has family in the area.
The Wall of Honor reflects the legacy of Charles H. Yoe, for whom the school is named. Yoe funded the establishment of the school through what is often referred to as the “Magnificent Gift,” motivated by his belief that his own lack of formal education had limited his opportunities.
Inductees to the Wall of Honor typically include distinguished alumni, longtime educators and community members whose service, leadership or achievements have had a lasting impact on both the school district and the city of Cameron. Each honoree is recognized with a plaque detailing their graduation year and accomplishments.
School officials said the addition of new honorees this year continues that tradition while highlighting both past contributions and the promise of current students.
