Upcoming Local Elections

Voters across Milam County will head to the polls this month as early voting begins for May municipal and school board elections in local cities.

City of Thorndale

Early voting will take place at the Thorndale Senior Citizens Center, 132 E Salty St, on Monday, April 20, Wednesday through Friday, April 22-24, and Monday and Tuesday, April 27 and 28, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The city council race includes three open seats currently held by Mayor Pro Tem Wayne Green and council members Shanta Kuhl and Steven Zuehlke. All three incumbents have filed to run for their current positions as well as three challengers: Brad Robbins, Gerald Niemtschk and Sam Pickett.

The two Thorndale ISD board trustee incumbents were running unopposed, so that election was canceled.

City of Cameron

Early voting will take place at the Milam County Annex, 806 N. Crockett St., on Monday, April 20, Wednesday through Friday, April 22-24, and Monday and Tuesday, April 27 and 28, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

All city positions were running unopposed so that election was canceled.

For the Cameron ISD Board of Trustees, two seats currently held by James Burks and Roy Martinez will be on the ballot. Neither incumbent filed for reelection, leaving Joseph Johnson, Michael Denio, Brandon Moore and Holly Gommert to face off for the two positions.

City of Rockdale

Early voting will take place at the Rockdale City Hall, 505 W. Cameron Ave, on Monday, April 20, Wednesday through Friday, April 22-24, and Monday and Tuesday, April 27 and 28, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The city election has two ballots with both including city propositions A-O and the East ballot including an East Ward council member race between John Lawhon and Nathan Flores. Sample ballots with the propositions included can be found on the Rockdale website, rockdaletx. gov.

For the Rockdale ISD Board of Trustees, two seats, Place 6 and Place 7, currently held by Janice Keen and Julia Cardona, respectively, will be on the ballot. Keen will face challengers Susan Pantaleón and Sharee Mitchell. Cardona will face Wesley Janak and Quinn Kearney.
