Cameron ISD to hold active shooter drill

Cameron ISD will hold an active shooter drill on Feb. 26 at C.H. Yoe High School in an effort to prepare the students and staff in the event that CISD is ever faced with an active shooter on campus. “The purpose of this drill is to prepare students in the event CISD is ever faced with an active shooter on campus, and to allow administrators and staff to identify areas of strength and weakness when responding to such an event,” CISD Superintendent Allan Sapp said. Sapp said community members may notice an increase in law enforcement on the high school campus the day of the drill. Law enforcement officers will be present during the drill to observe the response by CISD staff and students as the drill is taking place. Immediately following the drill, law enforcement officers will meet with all Yoe High School students in the Performing Arts Center to provide them with information on how they, as students, would be expected to respond if faced with an actual active shooter event. Additionally, law enforcement will meet with CISD administrators to offer feedback following the drill. “We remind you, again, that this is just a drill,” Sapp said. “There will be no weapons present on the campus during the course of this drill. Rest assured that Cameron ISD makes the safety of all students a top priority. We feel that this well-planned drill will assist us in preparing for such an event, as well as help us ensure the safety of all those entrusted to our care each day.”
