Thorndale Ex Student News
I’ve been working on all parts of the Ex-Students records lately, just trying to bring everything up to date. One area I need some help from all of you with is our Homecoming Kings and Queens. The following are missing, or I just haven’t been able to find them: all before 1963; 1964–1965; King for 1966–1967; 1966– 1967; 1974–1975 through 1994–1995; 1996–1997 through 2012–2013; 2015– 2016 through 2018–2019; 2020–2021; 2021–2022; and 2023–2024. The late Mike Organ, Class of 1964, wanted this list started and shared some that he knew, but this is as far as we got, and that was many years ago. Thought I’d just try to finish it and then keep up.
We have seven scholarships to give out at the Senior Scholarship Night, which is set for May 19 at 6 p.m. at the Thorndale Fireman’s Hall. It’s really a nice evening to see all the students receive money to help with their educations. Right now, we have three for $500 each and four for $700 each. Please contact us as soon as possible if you are interested in giving one through our organization in memory of or to honor a loved one.
I’m constantly updating addresses, and I thank Rosalie Biar, wife of the late Harold Biar, Class of 1949, for sending us the change of address for daughter Rhonda Biar Symank, Class of 1976. We appreciate it so much.
Remember, Homecoming is September 12, 2026, hopefully at the new school. Can’t wait to see it when it’s finished.
Had such a nice visit from Wendy Hirt, Class of 1984, this week. She brought a beautiful magazine with a couple of articles and lots of pictures of the late Charles Graham, Class of 1949. Haven’t read it yet, but am anxious to do so. Will write about it in the next week or two. Wendy is such a delightful young lady and doing a great job of taking care of her mom, Betty Rodenbeck Hirt, Class of 1948. Really enjoyed her visit and appreciate the beautiful magazine.
There were a couple of pages of write-ups and pictures of the Wesley Miller family and, of course, Wesley’s Grocery and Mkt. That’s the family of exteacher/ principal Heather Klotz. How they did it, I don’t know, but they kept the huge store sign that was on the store for many years. Really interesting article, and I love the colored pictures.
Just had a call from dear niece Jennifer Patschke Fisher, Class of 1970, and it looks like we might have another Easter egg hunt on The Hill next Sunday. Anxious to see Jennifer’s newly redone house. She’s now fixing what used to be the plant and playroom into her sewing room. Maybe it’ll be finished by Easter Sunday. Love this family.
FYI: Good Friday is April 3, 2026; Easter Sunday is April 5, 2026; and Easter Monday is April 6, 2026. I know what the Monday after Easter is, but I didn’t know that Easter Monday is considered a holiday. Didn’t know it was called Easter Monday!!!
Now for a little Thorndale Bulldog and Lady Dog sports. The Thorndale Bulldog basketball team fell last week in the Class 2A Regional Semifinals against #21 Port Aransas, 48–42. It ended their 18game win streak, bringing their record to 29–5 for the season. Cute picture in the paper with several holding spinning basketballs on one finger.
The Thorndale Bulldog baseball team competed in the Texas 2A Showdown in Bosqueville last week. Competing were 12 of the most accomplished 2A programs in the state. The Bulldogs finished 2–1 in the tournament before rain washed out the Saturday schedule.
The Thorndale Lady Dogs powerlifting team competed last week in the regional meet in Dublin. Qualifying for the state meet are Jordan Stutts, Class of 2026, with a first place, and Riley Shock, Class of 2026, with a second place.
The Thorndale Bulldog powerlifting team competed in the regional meet in Navasota last week, and Marcus Shaw finished first in his weight class to qualify for the state meet.
We are so proud of all of our athletes, and we send each one our congratulations.
