Pastor installation

Progressive Missionary Baptist Church will hold an installation service for Pastor Michael J. Thomas on Sunday, Jan. 13, at 3 p.m. at 1000 West 6th Street in Cameron. Installation will be by Dr. Charles E. Maze, Pastor of Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Temple.

Peter Pan auditions

Due to the amazing success of MCT’s summer children’s camp, Milam Community Theater is thrilled to announce its first year of children’s theater. Their spring production is the family favorite “Peter Pan.” This will be a large cast of 30+ parts, speaking and non-speaking roles. All kids ages 7-18 are invited to audition at the Williams Event Center in Cameron Monday and Tuesday, Jan. 14 and 15, from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Rehearsals will be once a week. No acting experience necessary. It is free to participate, so don’t miss out.

County Clerk’s Office Closing

The County Clerk’s Office, Election & Voter Registration Department will be closed Monday, Jan. 14, and Tuesday, Jan. 15, for the Asbestos Abatement.

Pancake Supper

The Milano Evening Lions Club is hosting its annual pancake supper on Jan. 19 at the Milano Civic Center. Serving is set from 5-7 p.m. Plates are $5 for adults and $3 for 12 and under and include pancakes, sausage and drink. There will be live music by Lynn Martin and a silent auction. Carry out plates will also be available.

Domino Tournament

The annual Westphalia Knights of Columbus Council “42” Domino Tournament is scheduled for Sunday, Jan. 27, at the Westphalia Community Parish Hall, Highway 320 in Westphalia. Registration will begin at 11:30 a.m. continuing until 12:30 p.m. with play starting shortly after that. Each player will draw for a partner between rounds and will play four 30-minute rounds. Cost is $5 per player. Prizes will be awarded to the top players. Blood Drive

A blood drive for Gause resident and Milano High School graduate Dendy Brown is scheduled Jan. 31 at the Gause ISD gym. In Sept. 2018, Dendy was critically injured in an auto accident and required multiple surgeries and transfusions as part of his medical treatment. The drive will take place from 1-7 p.m. at the gym, located at 400 College Street in Gause. Cameron VFD Money Giveaway

Cameron Volunteer Fire Department will hold it’s annual Money Giveaway on Feb. 9 at the Williams Event Center. Tickets are $125. If you would like a ticket please let the Fire Chief or any member of the Department know.

Chili Supper

The Milano Volunteer Fire Department’s annual chili supper set for Feb. 16 at the fire station. The event will conclude with the drawing of 10 big prizes for the group’s annual fundraiser. Tickets for the annual drawing are now on sale and are$5 each or five for $20.

Mardi Gras Bash

The Mardi Gras Bash will be held Saturday, Feb. 23, at Simon George Hall, 401 S. Karnes, in Cameron. The event will start at 6 p.m. and will include a Cajun food dinner, live auction, a gun raffle and activities for the kids. Adult tickets are $10 and children under 18 are $5.

Washers Tournament

A Washers Tournament benefitting the American Cancer Society will be held each second and fourth Sunday of the month at Apache Pass Ice House beginning at 5:15 p.m. Registration starts at 4:30 p.m. Cost is $20 per team, double elimination. Prizes awarded to first, second and third place teams. In December there will only be one tournament on Dec. 16 because of the Christmas Holiday.

Railroad Museum

The Milam County Railroad Museum and Old Town Cameron will be open Tuesdays and Saturdays from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. Old Town Cameron will be undergoing extensive upgrades to the track and operating systems during the next two to three months. If members of the Milam County Model Railroad Club are working, the Museum and OTC will be open. Please check our website: www.mcmr-otc.org for a schedule of work times.

San Andres Masonic Lodge

The San Andres Masonic Lodge #170 meets every second Thursday of the month at the San Andres Masonic Lodge #170 at 106 W. 6th St. Dinner at 6:30 p.m. followed by a meeting at 7:30 p.m.

Ben milam VFW Post 2010

Kitchen open Tuesday through Saturday from 6:30 to 10:30 p.m. Dart tournaments Wednesday and Friday. Karaoke every Friday. Come and enjoy.

Videos of Judge Black presentation on sale

In 2014 Judge William Black presented a talk about his father “The Life and Times of Sheriff Carl Black” at the Milam County Historical Museum. The museum now has DVD recordings of that presentation available for purchase at the museum located at 112 W. 1st, Cameron.

History of the Milam County Jail

New color History of the Milam County Jail with text by Thomas Grimes is now available at the Main Museum, 112 West First Street. The cost is $25 or $30 shipped. This is the first ever collectable history of this historic jail ever to be produced. There is a limited number of copies available.
