Yoemen to face West in bi-district round

The Yoemen took care of Lago Vista and wrapped up the number two playoff seed from District 10-3A-I on Friday night in a slug fest.

They came out on top 45-35 after going into halftime tied at 14 with the Vikings.

Braden Brashear threw four touchdown passes while completing 17 of 23 attempts for 340 yards for the Yoemen, who will end the season at 9-1 for the season and 5-1 in district.

Lago Vista got on the board first after tight end Noah Vasquez caught a 12-yard pass from quarterback Buck Pounds to make the score 6-0 after a missed two-point conversion.

The Yoemen answered with an 88-yard touchdown pass from Brashear to wide receiver Kobe Young. Axel Martinez would add the extra point to put Cameron up 7-6.

The Vikings would score again on a 19-yard run from Pounders and make the two-point conversion to go up 14-7.

Yoe would tie it up at 14 with a 25-yard pass from Brashear to wide receiver Pharrell Hemphill. Martinez would add the extra point.

Martinez would break the tied game in the third with a 35-yard field goal, and the Yoemen would extend their lead when Nico Vargas picked off a Vikings pass and returned it 10 yards for a score.

Lago Vista closed the score to 24-21 on an 8-yard scoring pass from Pounds to Sam Hurley. 

But the Yoemen would come back with consecutive drives that ended with Brashear touchdown passes to James DeBose and Young again to go up 38-21.

Lago Vista would score again with an 8-yard Pounds run to make it 38-28.

DeBose would add another score on a 12-yard run to put the Yoemen up 45-28, before Lago Vista would score again on a 71-yard run from Sam Hurley, but couldn’t catch up before time ran out.

With the win the Yoemen secured second place in District 10-3A-1 behind Troy. Rockdale and Lago Vista will round out the teams headed to the playoffs from the district.

The Yoemen will head to Waco ISD Stadium on Friday night to face the West Trojans in the bi-district round of the playoffs at 7:30 p.m. Cameron will be the visiting team. Pre-sale tickets are on sale at the YHS kiosk. Adults are $5 and students are $3. All tickets are $5 at the gate. Parking fee will be $5. Gates open at 6 p.m.

Troy will face Teague, Rockdale is set for Grandview and Lago Vista will face Whitney in bi-district play.
