Yoe wrestlers get off to good start this season

The Yoe High wrestling teams have gotten their season off to a great start.

The teams wrestled Friday and Saturday in the Capital City Classic and did well. All Yoe wrestlers won matches.

The girls finished seventh out of 46 schools with only four wrestlers.

Judith Llanas placed third and Ebonique House placed fourth.

The teams also wrestled in a dual match with Temple and Gatesville the week prior and came away with wins in 13 out of 15 matches.

“This was history in the making as this was the first time that we ever wrestled and dual match,” Coach Dale Keen said. “Up until this point we have always wrestled in just tournaments. It has always been my goal as a coach to get into the situation where we can do dual matches.”

Keen said his teams wrestled in dual matches against Temple and Gatesville and even though they couldn’t fill every weight class they won 13 matches.

“We are having trouble getting enough numbers,” Keen said. “But if we ever get them we can on a regular basis do dual matches in Cameron and the fans will love it. The parents that were there the other night loved it.”
