Yoe soccer defeats Marlin

The Cameron Yoemen soccer team hosted the Marlin Bulldogs on Monday. The Yoemen defeated the Bulldogs 5-3. 

Cameron jumped on Marlin early with a goal in first minute by Michael Morales (7) to make the score 1-0. The continued to attack with a corner kick oppertunity the in third minute but was unsuccessful. Marlin pushed the ball up the field and missed a shot on goal. The ball headed back the other way and the Yoemen missed a corner kick opportunity in the sixth minute. Marlin earned a corner kick chance of their own in the 10th minute, but came up empty. Cameron stayed aggressive with a shot on goal by Morales in the 12th minute but missed, then Cameron missed a corner kick in the 16th minute. Marlin began to put pressure on offense and had a shot on goal that was stopped with a save by Hayden Delafuente (00) in the 17th minute, followed by another Cameron save by Delafuente in the 18th minute. 

The Yoemen pushed the ball up the field and attempted a corner kick in 19th minute but missed. The Yoemen stayed aggressive and scored another goal by Jonathon Clouse (11) in the 26th minute to make it 2-0. Marlin tried to answer with a shot on goal in the 27th minute but came up empty. 

Marlin had a chance at a corner kick in the 28th minute but it was unsuccessful. The Bulldogs kept up the pressure with a missed shot on goal. However, on their next opportunity, they put themselves on the scoreboard with a goal to make the score 2-1. Marlin tried to tie the score with a shot from in the 30th minute but it came up short. 

Cameron responded and added to their lead with a goal by Joshua Velasquez (16) in the 31st minute for a 3-1 lead over Marlin. The Yoemen tried to add on with a corner kick in the 35th minute but failed. The Bulldogs began to mount some last minute pressure with some shots on goal but they would be saved by Delafuente in the fifth minute. Marlin had a shot in the in last minute of the half but missed. The Bulldogs went into halftime down 3-1.

Cameron came into the second half aggressive with a shot by Morales in second minute of the half but failed, however Morales scored a goal in that same minute to take a 4-1 lead. Marlin tried to answer with a corner kick opportunity in the 43rd minute but came up empty. Cameron tried to add on but was stopped with a save by the Marlin goalie, but Homero Najera (10) scored shortly after that to hand the Bulldogs a 5-1 deficit. 

Marlin tried to respond with a shot on goal in the 40th minute but was unsuccessful, that was soon followed with another missed shot on goal in the 50th minute. The Bulldogs would score a goal to close the gap to 5-2. Najera tried to answer in 59th minute but failed. 

The Yoemen tried again in the 60th minute but the shot was saved the Marlin goalie. Marlin tried to close the gap as well with a pretty good shot on goal but was unsuccessful due to a save by John Torres (0). The Bulldogs did score in the 62nd minute to make the score 5-3, but the Yoemen held the Bulldogs down and would win 5-3. 

The Yoemen stayed at home on Tuesday against the La Vega Pirates, and were defeated 4-1. 

Up next for Cameron will be on the road against the Mexia Black Cats. The game is set for 7 p.m.
