Lexington sweeps Lady Yoe in three

The Lady Yoe volleyball team were swept by the Lexington Lady Eagles on Tuesday 3-0. This was also Kaley White’s (3) first game back as she has returned from an ankle injury that sidelined her since the Johnson City tournament back in late August.

“We are very thankful and excited to see Kaly back on the court,” Coach Maria Gonzalez said. “She did a great job distributing the ball to our players and trusting her teammates. I was really proud of her.”

The first point of the set went to Cameron. Lexington would go on to score the next four points. Lexington grew their lead to 9-3 and eventually built up the lead to 13-5. Cameron would then score three points in a row to make the score 14-8 and shrunk the deficit to 15-12. The Lady Yoe would make it a one point game on a kill by Haley Tucker (6). The game would stay balanced and the lead for Lexington stayed at 2 until the score became 20-17.

The Lady Yoe came back and tied up the game on a Lexington error, but Lexington gained back the lead at 23-21. The Lady Yoe then tied the set at 23 then took the lead when the ball went out of bounds on a failed Lexington kill. Cameron would then lose the lead and eventually the first set 26-24.

“Lexington is a very disciplined team that knows how to win and will find ways to do so,” Gonzalez said. “They run a very quick offense in the middle and have a great setter that runs their offense very smoothly.”

The first point of the second set went to Cameron on a kill by Jessa Florez (13). Cameron would get a block by Sydni Smith (1) for a 2-1 lead, and a combined block for a 4-1 lead. Lexington marched back and tied the set at 6 and would take back the lead 7-6 As Cameron’s deficit grew to 11-6, and a kill by Lauren Harris (9) ended the drought. Lexington grew their lead to 17-10, but the deficit for the Lady Yoe shrunk to 20-15 on kill by Tucker. An ace by Smith would make the score 23-19, but it would not be enough as the Lady Eagles would win the second set 25-19.

The first point of the third set would go to Lexington. The game started even until Cameron got an ace by Ainsley Driska (4) to take the lead 4-3, they ended up losing the lead 5-4. The set stayed even until Lexington got up 11-9, and their lead grew to 18-13. The Lady Yoe tried to march back with a kill by Tucker for a 23-18 game, but Lexington would power on and would take the third set 25-18 for the sweep. Gonzalez was still very pleased with how well her team played despite the sweep.

“I was proud of our girls for sticking to our game plan in the first set,” Gonzalez said. “We battled and competed against a tough opponent. We’ve spent a lot of time and effort growing as a team since our last match last Tuesday. We are continuing to see improvement from all aspects on and off the court and that makes me really proud.”

Cameron’s next matchup will be tomorrow as they head out to Caldwell to take on the Lady Hornets. Gonzalez feels it will be a tough matchup, but with some adjustments and getting Kaly White back in rhythm, she feels it can be done.

“We’ll continue to get adjusted back to having Kaly running our offense,” she said. “We will continue to work on being disciplined throughout the entire match and finding ways to score. We have to have all players on board emotionally, physically, and mentally to complete the task. I have full faith in our team.”

The game is scheduled to start at 4:30 p.m. before the football game at 7:30 p.m.
