Lady Yoe top Lexington to remain undefeated in district

The Lady Yoe Volleyball team traveled to Lexington to take on the Lady Eagles, and survived a comeback attempt by Lexington and won 3-2 on Tuesday night. With the win they move to 6-0 in district play.

The first two points of the first set went to Cameron. A kill by Ainsley Driska (4) put the Lady Yoe up 4-2, then they increased their lead to 6-2. Lexington came back and tied the set at 8. Cameron stopped their momentum with a tip over kill by Driska for a 9-8 lead, but soon lost the lead 11-10. The Lady Yoe battled back and went up 13-11 with a score by Sydni Smith (1). The Lady Yoe stayed strong with a combined block from Smith and Kaly White (3) for a 16-11 lead and soon increased that lead to 22-17. Kasara Brooks (5) came through with a nice tip over kill for 23-17 lead, which was followed with a kill then an ace by Driska to win the first set 25-20.

The first four points of the second set went to Cameron. The Lady Yoe remained tough with a big block by Smith for a 5-1 lead, and soon jumped to a 7-2 lead. Lexington stormed back and the score became 7-6. The Lady Eagles tied the set at 7, but Cameron responded with three straight points to make the score 10-7. 

The Lady Eagles scored three points of their own to tie the set at 10. Cameron tried to stop their momentum with a kill by Haley Tucker (6) for a 13-11 lead. That was soon followed with an ace by Lauren Harris (9) for a 15-12 lead. They would expand their lead to 20-15 on a combined block by Harris and Brooks, and go on to win the second set 25-18.

The first point of the third set went to Lexington. The set stayed even until Cameron took an 8-5 lead. Lexington came back and tied the set at 8 and took the lead 10-9. They would expand their lead but Cameron fought back with a kill by Smith for a 16-15 deficit. The Lady Eagles went up 21-17, but Cameron battled back and the score became 21-20, which would not be enough as the Lady Yoe would lose the third set 25-21.

The first four points of the fourth set went to Lexington. The Lady Yoe fell behind 7-1, then went down double digits at 12-2. The Lady Yoe scored four straight points to make their deficit 12-6, but Lexington pulled away again to eventually make Cameron’s deficit 18-11. The Lady Yoe tried to rally back but they would come up short, losing the fourth set 25-21.

The first point of the fifth and final set went to Lexington. The Lady Yoe would score three straight points aided by a massive kill from Driska for 3-1 lead. Driska soon followed that with three straight points for a 9-4 lead. Cameron continued to expand the lead with a kill by Tucker to make the score 11-7. That was soon followed with a clutch ace from Lindsay Talafuse (7) for 14-7 lead, and Cameron would come out on top, winning the fifth set 15-7 to seal the victory.

The ladies also defeated Academy on Friday night 3-1. The Lady Bees won the first set 25-21, but then the Lady Yoe came back to win 25-22, 26-24 and 25-19.

With this win, Cameron now moves to 6-0 in district play. Up next for the Lady Yoe, they will be hosting the McGregor Lady Bulldogs. The game will be on Friday and is scheduled to start at 4:30 p.m.
