Lady Yoe get wins in tournament play

Over the weekend, the Lady Yoe basketball team participated in an in-season tournament hosted by West High School.

Cameron started off the tournament with a win on Thursday against the Groesbeck Lady Goats 48-35.

Camryn Ward recorded 12 points, an assist, and three steals. Aliya Salazar had ten points, four rebounds, a steal, a block, and three assists. Claudia Campos recorded 13 points and two steals. Their next game on Thursday was against the Rice Lady Bulldogs, where they lost 68-41. They had one game on Friday against the Lago Vista Lady Vikings and were defeated 50-33.

The Lady Yoe then played two games on Saturday. The first game was against the Lady Chargers of Keene and Cameron was victorious, and then defeated the Coolidge Lady Yellowjackets 49-47. With those two wins, Cameron finished the tournament with a 3-2 record.

The Lady Yoe hosted the Lago Vista Lady Vikings on Tuesday night and were defeated 51-24.

The first quarter stayed even as it was a very tight, defensive quarter. The first quarter ended with a low score of 8-6 with Lago Vista leading. The deficit for Cameron grew to 13-6 but a basket by Amani Fields (24) moved the score to 13-8. The Lady Yoe kept fighting with a basket by Camryn Green (10) for a 17-11 score. The game went into halftime with a score of 21-11 with the Lady Vikings in the lead.

Cameron cut their deficit to single digits with a three pointer by Camryn Ward (22) for a 21-14 game. Lago Vista began to surge as they increased their lead to 28-14. The Lady Yoe ended the scoring run by Lago Vista with a layup by Aliya Salazar (30) for 32-16 score. The third quarter ended with Lago Vista leading 37-17.

The Lady Yoe would get a three pointer from Kaly White (3) for a score of 40-23. It would not be enough as the Lady Vikings marched on to hand Cameron the loss 51-24.

The Lady Yoe will have one more non-district opponent before heading into district play. On Friday, Dec. 10, they will head on the road to take on the Taylor Lady Ducks, and tip-off is set for 6:15 p.m.
