Lady Yoe end season honoring seniors

The Lady Yoe played their final game of the year at home on Tuesday against the Academy Lady Bees. This was their last home game, and it was also senior night. 

The team celebrated the four seniors on the team: Mia Wimmer, Kyli Leftwich, Aliya Salazar, and Claudia Campos. Unfortunately, the team was unable to send them off with a win as they were defeated 58-28.

Cameron got off to a bad start as they fell 6-0 to Academy early. The Lady Yoe’s first points came on a free throw by Claudia Campos (44) for a score of 6-1. They then scored on a basket by Aliya Salazar (30) for an 8-3 score. Academy began to pile on the points and the deficit for Cameron increased to 15-3, then to 20-6. The first quarter ended with Academy ahead 23-6.

The scoring in the second quarter started with a basket by Harmony Bennett (4) for a 23-8 score. That was followed with a three pointer by Campos to shorten the deficit to 25-11. After that, the Lady Bees turned on the jets and grew their lead to 33-13. Cameron broke the scoring drought with a three pointer by Kaly White (3) for a score of 33-16. The Lady Yoe then scored on a buzzer beating layup by Salazar for a 35-18 deficit going into halftime.

Cameron started the scoring in the third quarter with a transition layup by Camryn Ward (22) for a 35-20 game. The Lady Bees then went on a scoring run to make their lead 42-20. Cameron tried to show some life with a basket by Salazar for a score of 45-26. The third quarter ended with the Lady Yoe trailing 47-28. 

Academy continued to pull away in the fourth quarter and the deficit for Cameron grew to 55-28. They would go on to lose to Academy 58-28.

The Lady Yoe also went on the road to Caldwell on Saturday, Feb. 5, to take on the Lady Hornets. They were defeated 41-39 in a hard fought loss.   

The ladies ended the season at 10-23 at 3-9 in district play.
