Lady Yoe defeat Rockdale to remain unbeaten in district

The Cameron Lady Yoe volleyball moved to 8-0 in district play with a win over Rockdale on Tuesday night.

The team hosted the Rockdale Lady Tigers for senior night to honor the five seniors: Sydni Smith, Haley Tucker, Ainsley Driska, Lauren Harris, and Kaly White. 

They avoided a near scare, winning the match 3-2. The first two points of the first set went to Cameron. Rockdale then scored four straight points to lead 4-2, then grew their lead to 9-3. Cameron came up with a kill by Sydni Smith (1) for an 11-4 score with Cameron trailing. The Lady Yoe continued to fight back with a kill and two consecutive aces by Haley Tucker (6) for a score of 18-13 in favor of Rockdale. 

Cameron marched all the way back and made the score 18-16, then tied the set at 18 on a kill by Ainsley Driska (4). The Lady Tigers responded with a 3-0 run to go up 21-18, but the Lady Yoe answered with a 3-0 run of their own and tied the set at 21. Cameron took a 24-23 lead on clutch ace from Driska, and would win the first set 25-23 on a score by Tucker to complete the comeback.

The first two points of the second set went to Cameron. Tucker added on for Cameron with a kill then three consecutive aces for a 6-1 lead. Kaly White (3) came through with a dump off kill to expand their lead to 8-2, which was soon followed with an ace by Driska for a 11-4 lead. The Lady Yoe added on with a graceful point by Smith to make the lead 14-5. Cameron continued to pull away and grew their lead to double digits at 16-6. Driska came through with a monster kill for a 19-9 lead, and the score continued to stay at double digits at 22-12. The Lady Yoe would win as they dominated the second set 25-12.

The first two points of the third set went to Rockdale and Cameron fell behind 5-2. Cameron tried to fight back with an ace by Driska for a 6-5 deficit, but Rockdale went on a 4-0 run and Cameron fell behind 10-5. The Lady Yoe tried to battle back with a big kill by Tucker to make the score 10-8. The Lady Yoe came back to tie the set at 12 on a clutch kill by Driska, but Rockdale kept up their tempo to take a 23-17 lead and would win the third set 25-20.

The first three points of the fourth set went to Rockdale, and Cameron quickly fell behind 5-1. The lady Yoe tried to stay in the set with a block by Smith for a 6-2 deficit. The Lady Tigers stayed aggressive and the Lady Yoe deficit grew to 11-5, then 14-9. Cameron marched all the way back with a 5-0 run and tied the set at 14 on kill by Driska. Cameron took a 15-14 lead on a point by Driska off of an incredible dig by Lauren Harris (9). Cameron expanded their lead to 21-18 lead with a spike from Tucker. Rockdale clawed back and the score became 23-22, then tied the set at 23. Cameron would get a kill from Smith for a 24-23 lead, but Rockdale completed the rally and won the fourth set 27-25.

The Lady Yoe came out strong in the fifth and final set as the first six points went to Cameron. That was soon followed by an ace from Tucker for 8-1 lead. Rockdale tried to rally but that was halted with a tip over kill by Driska for an 11-5 lead. Rockdale tried to rally back once more, but it would not be enough as Cameron would win the fifth set 15-11 to win the game and improve their district record to a perfect 8-0. 

Coming up next for the Lady Yoe will be a game on the road at Troy as they take on the Trojanettes. The game will be on Saturday and is scheduled to start at noon.  

The Cameron Lady Yoe hosted the McGregor Lady Bulldogs on Friday and were victorious, winning 3-1. They won the first set 25-18, won the second set 25-17, lost the third set 25-20, and won the fourth set 25-23.
