Lady Yoe defeat Rockdale in district opener

The Lady Yoe volleyball team hosted the Rockdale Lady Tigers on Friday for their district opener. The Lady Yoe were victorious, winning 3-1. 

The first point of the first set went to Cameron. The Lady Yoe would stay on top and took a 4-2 lead, which was soon followed with a big swing by Kennedy Banks (11) to make it a 6-4 lead. Cameron began to try and pull away with three consecutive kills by Saydi Wimmer (12) to widen the gap to 11-6. 

The Lady Yoe stayed aggressive with a powerful spike by Crystal Daniels (7) to make it a 14-9 lead. Cameron showed their strength on defense with a block by Kasara Brooks (5) to take a 16-10 lead. The Lady Yoe also showed great skill at the service line with an ace from Banks to make the lead 19-13. Cameron continued their success with a kill by Wimmer for a 22-16 lead, and Wimmer soon followed that with another big spike to go up 24-18. Cameron would win the first set 25-18.

The Lady Yoe started slow in the second set as the first three points went to Rockdale. The early struggles continued and Cameron trailed 5-1. The Lady Yoe tried to fight back with two consecutive aces by Allie Henson (3) to make it a 5-4 deficit. The Lady Yoe then tied the set at 6 on clutch a kill by Brooks, then took a 7-6 lead. The set stayed even until Rockdale went on a scoring run and took a 20-13 lead. Cameron ended the drought with a kill by Wimmer to make the score 20-14, but Rockdale responded with a 5-2 run to win the second set 25-16.

The first point of the third set was scored by Rockdale. The set stayed even as the two teams would continue to exchange points. Cameron would grow their lead on a kill by Wimmer to go ahead 13-11. The Lady Yoe extended their lead with a kill by Daniels to make the score 18-14, which was soon followed with a kill by Brooks for a 20-17 lead. Rockdale clawed their way back to make the score 20-19, and retook the lead 22-21. Cameron stayed alive with a huge spike by Brooks for a 23-22 deficit. The Lady Yoe didn’t quit and rallied to win the third set 26-24 on a clutch kill by Wimmer.

Cameron started the fourth set slowly as the first three points went to Rockdale. The early struggles continued for the Lady Yoe as they trailed 4-1. Cameron responded with a 3-2 run and closed the gap to 6-4. Cameron stayed alive with a kill by Banks for an 11-9 deficit. The Lady Yoe rallied back and tied the set at 12 on an ace by Daniels, then took the lead 13-12 on a big kill by Brooks. The teams would go back and forth and the score stayed close for the rest of the set until Cameron prevailed in the end to win the fourth set 26-24 to win the game. 

Kennedy Banks had a great game with 14 kills and an ace. Allie Henson was also a big contributor with 26 digs and four aces. Aubree Brashear was incredible with 11 digs and 29 assists. Crystal Daniels played great with three kills, six digs, and three aces. Kasara Brooks was outstanding with 11 kills, three blocks, and two aces. Saydi Wimmer was fantastic with 16 kills, 10 digs, and an ace. 

The ladies fell to Troy on Tuesday night 3-0. With the loss they fall to 1-1 in District play.

Up next for the Lady Yoe, they will host the Rogers Lady Eagles. The game will be on Friday and is set to start at 4:30 pm.
