Lady Yoe continue district play with Academy, Lexington

The Cameron Lady Yoe volleyball team hosted the Little River Academy Lady Bees on Friday. Cameron was swept by Academy 3-0, losing the first set 25-12, the second set 25-11, and the third set 25-17. 

The Lady Yoe hosted the Lexington Lady Eagles on Tuesday and lost to Lexington 3-0. 

The first two points of the first set went to Lexington. Cameron responded with a 4-0 run to take the lead 4-2. The Lady Yoe would go up 7-4, then Lexington came back and tied the set at 7. Lexington pulled away and continued their scoring run to lead Cameron 14-7. The Lady Yoe broke the drought with three consecutive points including one from a combined block by Kasara Brooks (5) and Aubree Brashear (1) to make it a 14-10 deficit. Cameron continued their scoring spurt and tied at 14, and eventually retook lead and went up 16-14. Lexington would finish the set on a 9-3 run to win the first set 25-17.

The first point of the second set went to Lexington. Cameron would fall behind early but recovered and would get a kill by Saydi Wimmer (12) to tie the set at 5. The set stayed even until Lexington took a 10-7 lead, but Cameron came back with a 4-1 run and tied the set at 11. Lexington responded with a 4-0 run to lead Cameron 15-11. 

The Lady Yoe continued to fight with a tip over kill by Brashear for a 15-12 deficit, followed by an ace from Allie Henson (3) to make the score 15-13. Lexington began to pull away from Cameron with a 7-0 run to go ahead of Cameron 22-13. The Lady Yoe tried to stay alive with two consecutive kills by Brooks to make the score 22-16, however it wasn’t enough and they would lose the first set 25-16.

The first point of the third set went to Lexington. Lexington stayed ahead but the Lady Yoe would get a kill by Brooks to make it a 4-3 deficit. The Lady Eagles would go on a 4-1 run to go up on Cameron 8-4. The Lady Yoe tried to claw their way back with a kill by Wimmer for a 9-6 deficit, which was soon followed with another big spike by Crystal Daniels (7) to make the score 10-7. 

Cameron showed some muscle on defense with a block by Kennedy Banks (11) for a 12-9 deficit. Banks would spike down another big point for Cameron to tie the set at 13, then the Lady Yoe took the lead 15-14 on a kill by Wimmer. Cameron continued to stay ahead with a combined block from Daniels and Cheyenne White (9) for a 19-17 lead. Lexington marched back and retook the lead 22-21 and never looked back to beat Cameron in the third set 25-23 to complete the sweep. 

With this loss, the Lady Yoe have a district record of 1-4. Up next, the Lady Yoe will travel to take on the McGregor Lady Bulldogs. The game will be on Friday and is set to start at 4:30 pm.
