Lady Yoe compete in Cameron Tournament

The Lady Yoe softball team hosted their annual tournament last weekend. The tournament was originally scheduled to take place from Thursday through Saturday, but due to inclement weather conditions, there was only four games played on Friday.

First Cameron played Somerville, then Somerville played Franklin, then Franklin played Bremond, then Cameron finished against Bremond.

The Lady Yoe handily defeated the Somerville Lady Yeguas in a three-inning game 16-3 due to a game time limit due to weather constraints. The game started with a huge 10 run inning for the Lady Yoe.

Cameron added on to their lead with runs in both the second and third inning. Brooklyn McCall went 2 for 3 at the plate, including a home run blast and two RBIs (runs batted in). Camryn Ward was outstanding as she went 3 for 3 at the plate with a walk and two RBIs. Navaeh Billingsley had a great game at the plate, going 2 for 2 with 2 RBIs and a stolen base. She also performed well on the mound, pitching two innings, and allowing one hit and no runs.

Cameron’s second game was against the Bremond Lady Tigers. The Lady Yoe were defeated 7-4. The Lady Yoe came to bat in the top of the first inning and opened up with a leadoff single by Lauren Harris (1). She stole second base then advanced to third base on a passed ball. That was followed with a walk for Mia Wimmer (14) who then steal second base.

Both Harris and Wimmer came home on a 2 RBI sacrifice bunt by Navaeh Billingsley (15) that put Cameron out in front 2-0. Kenzie Lara (5) then reached first base on a single but couldn’t go any farther as the top of the first inning ended on a swinging strike. Zayda Spillers (13) started on the mound for the Lady Yoe in the first inning and allowed a one out walk then a single. Those two runners would come home on a two run single into left field to tie the game at two. With great defense, Cameron kept the game tied with a great defense play and threw the hitter out at third on a relay throw from Kaly White (2) to Billingsley. The bottom of the first inning ended on a strikeout.

Delanie Evans (7) reached first base in the top of the second inning with a one out single. She then advanced to second base on a groundout. Evans would not go any further as the top of the second inning ended on a pop out. Spillers came back on the mound and pitched a clean second inning.

The top of the third inning started with a leadoff single by Wimmer and she advanced to second base on a passed ball. She then stole third base then scored on a Bremond fielding error giving Cameron a 3-2 lead on ball hit to second base by Lara. Wimmer came home to score on an RBI triple by Ka’Sara Brooks (9) making it a 4-2 Cameorn lead. The top of the third inning ended on a groundout. Things started to go bad for the Lady Yoe as Spillers allowed leadoff walk in the bottom of the third inning. The runner advanced to second base, then Spillers hit a batter.

Cameron then allowed a run on a single to right field for a 4-3 game. The struggle continued for Spillers as she hit another batter, then allowed a run on a passed ball to tie the score at 4. She then gave up a bases loaded walk to lose the lead 5-4, then another bases loaded walk to make the score 6-4 Bremond.

Coach Chris Sommerfield then made a pitching change. Billingsley would come in for Spillers. Billingsley then gave up a bases loaded walk to make the score 7-4. She would then throw a strikeout, but because of a game time limit due to the weather, the umpires called the game at 7-4 Bremond.

The Lady Yoe then hosted the Franklin Lady Lions on Tuesday. They were defeated by Franklin 13-1.

Up next the Lady Yoe will participate in a tournament this weekend hosted by Salado High School.
