Stutts named co-offensive newcomer of the year

Several members of the Thorndale football team were named to the District 13-2A Division I honor teams released last week, according to Bulldog head coach John Kovar.

Bulldog Coy Stutts was named the Co-Offense Newcomer of the Year.  He shared the award with Rosebud-Lott’s Jamarquis Johnson and Hearne’s Jeremiah Gurode.

Micha Smith of Hearne was the overall district Most Valuable Player.  Fellow Eagles Jabari Dunn and Stephen Craft Mitchell were named the league’s offense and defense MVPs, respectively.

Defense Newcomer of the Year went to Holland’s Colton Cargill.  District top offense linemen were Thrall’s Bryce Poling and Holland’s Marshall Mays and top defense lineman was Hearne’s Anthony Jackson.

Three Thorndale players were named to the first team all-district offense.  They were Cayden Nicholson at wide receiver, Stryker Leschber at inside receiver and Maddox Rubio at center.

Leschber also earned a slot on the first team defense at defensive end.  Hayden Kylberg was also named to the first team at inside linebacker.

Mason Lindig, Mike Reyes and Cain Brymer earned spots on the second team offense.  Lindig was picked for running back, Reyes for tackle and Brymer for utility player.

Reyes and Brymer also were named to the second team defense, at tackle and safety, respectively.  Chance Betak joined the on the squad at cornerback.

Eleven Bulldogs earned honorable mention all-district.  They were: linebacker John Alcalar, linebacker Mason Lindig, defensive tackle Alvin Theis, defensive back Aiden McCrae, defensive end Cayden Nicholson, safety/wide receiver Branson McCoy, linebacker Brenton White, offensive lineman Jake Ivy, offensive lineman Tyler Turman, offensive lineman Hayden Kylberg, kicker Raymond Avalos.

An impressive 17 Thorndale players earned academic all-district honors.  They were: John Alcalar, Cain Brymer, Mason Lindig, Coy Stutts, Chance Betak, Hunter Thigpen, Nolan Ray, Cayden Nicholson, Colton Merryman, Riggs Schneider, Aiden McCrae, Stryker Leschber, Jake Ivy, Hayden Kylberg, Kaleb Yount, Deven Muston and Branson McCoy.
