City of Thorndale approves raises, proposes tax rate

The Thorndale City Council met on Aug. 9 and approved several items including proposing a tax rate and budget for the coming year.

Council authorized the City Administrator to purchase a police vehicle through GovDeals spending up to $30,000.

The council also approved an 8 percent cost of living raise for city employees and proposed a tax rate of 0.5355 cents per $100 valuation. 

A public hearing is set for Sept. 13 at 5:30 p.m. for the budget with adoption following.

A public hearing is set for the tax rate on Sept. 20 at 5:30 p.m. with adoption following.

In other business the council: approved an animal control ordinance, approved an ordinance for unsafe or substandard buildings or structures, approved the purchase of a mini-excavator, approved a development plan for Classic Bank, and approved life/health/dental and vision rates for employees.
