Bulldogs head to playoffs after claiming district title for second year

The Bulldogs had big wins over Bremond, Granger and Holland last week to end the season as district champions for the second consecutive year. 

The Bulldogs will play the Sonora Broncos in the Bi-District round of the playoffs next week. Details regarding the day, time, and location are yet to be announced.

The Thorndale Bulldogs baseball team hosted the Rosebud-Lott Cougars on Friday. Thorndale defeated Rosebud-Lott 9-3. 

The game was tied at one after three innings, then the Bulldogs pulled away for good, scoring three runs in the fourth inning and five runs in the fifth inning. 

In the fourth inning, Nathan Grimm singled on a hard ground ball to center field, driving in two runs and Clawson hit an RBI groundout, scoring one run. In the fifth inning, the offensive onslaught by Thorndale was led by Tyler Turman, Luis Caseraz, and Jayden Clawson, all driving in runs in the frame.

The Bulldogs collected 11 hits in the game. Kaden Kovar, Luis Caseraz, and Jayden Clawson all had multiple hits for Thorndale. Kaden Kovar led the team with three hits in four at bats. Luke Merz got the win on the mound for Thorndale. The ace surrendered three runs on six hits over six and a third innings, striking out eight. Nathan Grimm threw two-thirds of an inning in relief out of the bullpen to earn the save for the Bulldogs, and he allowed no runs on no hits and a walk.

The very next day, Thorndale traveled to take on the Holland Hornets. The Bulldogs avenged their lone district loss and defeated Holland 9-5 on Saturday. 

Thorndale got things moving in the first inning with two runs. Tyler Turman hit a sacrifice fly to score one run. Thorndale also scored their second run on an RBI groundout by Luis Caseraz.

The Bulldogs notched four runs in the third inning to go up 6-0. The offensive firepower by Thorndale was led by Tyler Turman, Lance Pesl, Nathan Grimm, and Gunner Ferguson, all sending runners across the plate with RBIs in the inning. The Hornets rallied and made the score 7-5, but Thorndale sealed the game with two runs in the seventh inning to hold strong and win 9-5.

Thorndale tallied 11 hits in the game. Kaden Kovar, Coy Stutts, Luke Merz, and Gunner Ferguson each collected multiple hits for Thorndale. Gunner Ferguson led the Bulldogs to victory on the mound. The hurler lasted five innings, allowing seven hits and four runs while striking out four and walking one. Coy Stutts threw two innings in relief out of the bullpen. He allowed one run on two hits, one walk, striking out two.

Thorndale hosted the Bremond Tigers on Tuesday on a day that was also senior night. The Bulldogs asserted their will over Bremond on their way to an easy 11-1 victory that ended in six innings due to the ten run rule. The Bulldog offense was on fire, scoring in all but one inning. Thorndale racked up eight hits on the day. Kaden Kovar and Coy Stutts both had multiple hits for the Bulldogs. Kovar went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead the team in hits. The Bulldogs defense was sure-handed and didn't commit a single error in the field.

Lance Pesl toed the rubber for Thorndale. Pesl surrendered one run on four hits over six innings, striking out three and walking zero.
