Bulldogs defeat Bremond 14-2

The Thorndale Bulldogs baseball team was back in action on Tuesday and hosted the Bremond Tigers. The Bulldogs defeated the Tigers 14-2 in five innings due to the 10-run rule being enforced.

The game did not start out strong for Thorndale as they found themselves down early 2-0. The momentum quickly shifted on a double play that was started with a ground ball coming to the pitcher, Bryson Beran (21), and he threw the ball to the third baseman, Coy Stutts (3). Stutts caught a runner heading for third base and helped chase down a runner headed for first base to complete the double play. The top of the first inning later ended on a strikeout to keep the score at 2-0.

The Bulldogs came to bat in the bottom of the first inning and led off with a walk by Hunter Thigpen (4).  He came home on an RBI double by Logan Davis (9) to make it a 2-1 score. The Bulldogs then took a 3-2 lead on a massive two-run home run by Beran.

That was followed with a double by Broedie Salas (10) and a single by Stutts, who stole second base. The first inning ended on a fly out. Beran returned to the mound and pitched a shutout second inning.

The Bulldogs came out on offense for the bottom of the second inning and got a leadoff single by Kaden Kovar (7) followed by a single by Thigpen, who stole second base. Kovar came home on an RBI sacrifice fly by Luke Merz (8) for a 4-2 lead. Davis then reached first base on an infield single. Thorndale scored on a 2 RBI single by Beran to make it a 6-2 lead. The onslaught continued with an RBI triple by Salas for a 7-2 lead and an RBI single by Stutts for an 8-2 lead. Stutts stole second base then found his way to third. He came home on an RBI single by JD Alcalar (6) to make it a 9-2 lead. Alcalar then stole second and came home on a smoked RBI double by Hunter Clark (20) for a massive 10-2 lead. The big second inning ended on a line out. Beran came back out on the mound and pitched a lights out third inning. Davis came to bat for Thorndale in the bottom of the third inning, singled, and went to second base on fielding error by Bremond. Beran advanced to first base on a bloop single, and the Bulldogs added to their lead with an RBI single by Salas to make the score 11-2.

Stutts found himself on base due to a fielder’s choice and then stole second base. He and Salas came home on a 2 RBI single by Alcalar for a double-digit 13-2 lead. The bottom of the third inning ended on a strikeout. Beran returned to the mound and pitched a shutout fourth inning. The Bulldogs went on offense in the bottom of the fourth inning and got two baserunners in Thigpen and Davis due to Bremond fielding errors then a single by Clark. Thigpen scored on another fielding error by Bremond for a 14-2 lead, which would be the final score of this five inning game.

Beran was the winning pitcher for the Bulldogs. He pitched all five innings, allowing two runs on three hits, no walks, and had 10 strikeouts.
