Wayne Marsh

Wayne Marsh, age 78 of New Braunfels, played his last hand, on Tuesday morning, Jan. 27, 2021. At his request, his ashes will be spread by his children at his favorite fishing spot.

He was born Wayne Ray Marsh in Miami, Fla., to William Ray Marsh and Xarefa Maxine Hewitt Marsh on May 5, 1942. Wayne was raised all over world, as the son of a career military father. Wayne married Theresa Ann Koranek on April 16, 1975, in New Braunfels, Texas; they celebrated 45 years together.

Mr. Marsh was three times retired from the Texas Department of Transportation, Columbia Bowling, and Gary Job Corps. Wayne was a Veteran of the United States Army having served both on Active Duty (1-17 Cav) and in the United States Army Reserves (VIII US Airborne Corps.) as a Medical Corpsman from 1962-1967.

Wayne was known for his love of his family and the outdoors. He led a life that taught his sons to be brave, fearless, and adventurous. He helped develop their love for and skills in the great outdoors from rope swinging on the river, cliff diving, and snow skiing, to hunting, fishing, and watersports. He was proud to be each ones “Dad.” He was a doting protector, father, and loving aggravator to the joy of his life, his “little girl”. He fully appreciated the happiness of spending time with his grandchildren, attending school functions and programs, baseball games, stock shows, and karate classes. He handed down his enjoyment of the outdoors with the second generation often taking and teaching them fishing, riding go-carts, and the fine art of being a Blitz champion. Wayne was a fun-loving prankster who loved, helped, and appreciated his many friends.

He is survived by his wife, Theresa of New Braunfels; his children, Michael Joseph Marsh of San Antonio, James Curtis Pugh Jr. and Jennifer of Live Oak, Jonathan Wayne Marsh and Sharon (Sissy) Navarro of San Antonio, and Denise Michelle Pugh of New Braunfels; grandchildren, James Curtis Pugh III and Stephanie of Humble, Abbigail Marie Lasley of San Antonio, Mary Elizabeth Pugh Burnett and Brandon of Kempner, Tand Malachi Jonathan Marsh of San Antonio; three great-grandchildren, Miriam Charlotte Pugh, Phoenix Dominic Lasley, and Elijah James Pugh; one sister, Linda Kuhn and Robert of Sanford Florida, and a number of beloved nieces and friends.

The family would like to thank the nurses, aides, and staff of Hope Hospice and requests memorial donations in his honor to the American Cancer Society.
