Sid McQuary

Sid McQuary, age 102, lifelong resident of Milam County, passed away early Monday morning, Nov. 1, 2021. at his home in Thorndale. 

Services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 7, 2021, at Friendship United Methodist Church near Davilla with Pastor Scott Schaller of Trinity Lutheran Church in Taylor officiating. Interment in the Friendship United Methodist Cemetery near Davilla. Visitation is 7 p.m. until 9 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 6, 2021 at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale. 

Sid McQuary was born Jan. 10, 1919, to David Ross and Prebble (Walker) McQuary in Sharp, where he was raised and attended school. He served in the U.S. Army for 1942 to 1946 and was honorably discharged as a Staff Sergeant. He served with Company A 65th Armored Infantry. He received his Associate degree in science from Tarleton on May 16, 1942, and his BS in Agricultural Education from Texas A&M on Jan. 24, 1947. While at A&M he was 1st Lieutenant in the Corp of Cadets. 

On Dec. 5, 1955, he and Minnie Louise Schwarz began their marriage at St. John Lutheran Church in Thorndale. Mr. McQuary worked as a foreman over the Dryer Unit at IGC/TU Electric in Rockdale for 36 years retiring in 1989. He taught Ag in the Thorndale I.S.D. and was a lifelong farmer and rancher. He is a member of Friendship United Methodist Church in Davilla and St. John Lutheran Church in Thorndale. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, David and Prebble McQuary; his wife, Minnie McQuary on Dec. 4, 2006; son, Gerald Schmale; sisters, Margaret Pope, Lucille Hilliard and Irene Weydell; and a brother, James C. McQuary. 

Surviving are his sons, Wendell McQuary and wife Lisa of Austin, Dallas McQuary and wife Peggy of Thorndale and Austin McQuary and wife Jolynn of Tomball; daughter, Robin Bonner of Thorndale; daughter-in-law, Linda Schmale of Taylor; sister, Dorothy Callaway of Beaumont; 14 grandchildren, Christine Schmale and husband Mark Hieronymous, Jason Schmale, Mallory Robbins and husband Brad, Jennifer McQuary, Aaron McQuary, Kameron Harrison and husband Brad, Waco Bonner, Wren Samarah and husband Laith, Brazos Bonner, Brady Bonner, Madison McQuary, Hunter McQuary, Taylor McQuary and Brittany Webre; and five great-grandchildren, Jaxson Robbins, Braylei Robbins, Avery Harrison, Case Harrison and Micah Bonner. 

Pallbearers are Brady Bonner, Brazos Bonner, Aaron McQuary, Hunter McQuary, Brad Robbins and Jason Schmale.
