Sadie Raye Nickels

Sadie Raye Nickels, age 88 of Cameron, passed away Monday morning, Jan. 13, 2020, in the Legacy Nursing Home in Cameron.

Services for Mrs. Nickels are scheduled for 2 p.m. with visitation from 10 a.m. until 12 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 16, 2020, at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale with Gary Westbrook officiating. Graveside services are 3 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 18, 2020, at Glen Rest Cemetery at Big Lake, Texas.

Sadie was born Feb. 23, 1931, in Rockdale to Hosea and Ivie (Dickey) Blackmon. She and George J. Nickels were married Aug. 19, 1946 in Rockdale. 

She was a homemaker who loved her children, grandchildren and all of her nieces and nephews so very much.  Sadie also loved to bird watch, looking at and admiring flowers and collecting cookie jars. She has lived in Cameron since 1989.

She was preceded in death by her husband, George Nickels on Oct. 28, 1997; their daughter, Diane Box in 1964; grandsons, Timothy Nickels in 1973, Larry Leftwich in 1995 and Jared Rowell in 2003; and all 12 of her siblings.

Surviving are sons, Michael Nickels of Cameron and Larry Nickels and wife Gaye of Red Oak; daughters, Nancy Leftwich and husband Johnny of Cameron and Sandy Gilbert of College Station; son-in-law, Marron “Frog” Box of Lucedale, Miss.; 12 grandchildren, Roger, Christi, Larry, Jesse, Jared, Timothy, Brandi, Jason, Betheny, Larry, Diane, and Tami; 16 great-grandchildren, Paula, Nick, Braxton, Titus, Max, Ella, Timothy, Ryan, Brooke, Tristin, Alonna, Jordan, Cheyenne, Lauryn, Kyli, and Maci; seven great-great-grandchildren, Gracie, Tess, Duke, Madden, Meredith, Addilyn, Aschten; and special nieces, Dodie Wilkins and Jeanne Schmick, both of Cameron.

Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home of Rockdale is in charge of arrangements.
