Phyllis C. Waring

Phyllis C. Waring (nee RPhyllis C. Waring (nee Rice) passed away in Temple on March 23, 2022. She was born in Stillwater, Okla., in 1933 to Vera M. (Collins) Rice and Burl W. Rice. A memorial service will be held for her on Wednesday, May 24, 6:30 p.m. at Marek-Burns-Laywell Funeral Home in Cameron.

She married Larry N. Waring in 1954, and moved with Larry and two daughters — Karen Lynn and Colleen Gayle — to Evansville, Ind. After divorcing in 1962, Phyllis moved to Indianapolis, living there and in Noblesville, Indiana for the next 50 years.

She worked for Art Craft Press for 21 years until the company was sold. Following the sale, Phyllis went to work in the Indiana Secretary of State Office, then to Hamilton County Family and Social Services Administration until retiring in 2009. During her working years Phyllis was a 25-year member of American Business Women’s Association, holding all offices in her home chapter including the national office of Vice President District Six. She was also a 20-year member of the Hamilton County Republican Women’s Association, being honored in 1997 as Woman of the Year.

Phyllis moved to Cameron in August 2009, eventually volunteering as Costume Maker and Designer for Milam Community Theater. She loved to sew, and her table place mat sets were always in demand at the MCT annual silent auction.

She is survived by daughter Colleen G. Waring and son-in-law Randy Leo, and her “adopted” daughter Sharon Welborn, all of San Miguel de Allende, Mexico; daughter Karen Ursini-Blaschick of Niantic, Conn.; grandchildren, Tony Ursini (Trisha) of Little River, Conn.; Seth Leo (Dr. Jennifer), Galveston; and Scout Stern (Ben), San Antonio; great-grandchildren, Anthony Ursini Jr.; Kate and Fox Leo; Cora and Arden Stern; and her beloved four-legged companion Kubla Khan.
