Marie Campagna Anderson 

Marie Campagna Anderson passed away on Friday, June 10, 2022, at the age of 94. Services will be held Sunday, June 19, at 2 p.m. at Marek-Burns-Laywell Funeral Home, with visitation beginning at 1:30 p.m. Burial services will be held 2 p.m. Monday, June 20, at Mont Meta Memorial Park in San Benito. 

Marie was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Nathan Anderson (1924-1996); and brother, Salvador J. Campagna (1924-2003). 

She is survived by her daughters, Kathleen Nichols and husband Lennox, Alline Eldridge and husband Ashley, Sandra Blair and husband Tom, Beth Darst and husband Richard; Anita Colbert and husband Terry, and Roxane Beard and husband Chad; as well as 18 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. 

Marie was born Aug. 31, 1927, in New Orleans, La., to Isadore “Russell” and Camille (Margavio) Campagna. She grew up on her family’s farm and went on to attend college at LSU. Through her brother, Salvador, she met her sweetheart, Nathan Anderson, and they married on Jan. 8, 1948. Together they had six daughters, which they raised in numerous countries around the world including the United States, Australia, England, and Italy. They eventually settled in San Benito, Texas, where Marie was a member of the Business and Professional Women’s Association and ran her own dress shop. After Nathan’s passing, she relocated to Cameron in 1998 where she worked for the Milam County Sheriff’s department as an administrative assistant until she was the age of 84.

Marie was a lifelong devout Catholic and member of St. Monica’s Catholic Church. She had a passion for cooking, sewing, baseball, and taking care of the people in her family and community. She touched the lives of numerous people and continued to do so until the end. May her memory be a blessing to all.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TX 38105-9959.
