Hazel Smitherman Kuzel

Hazel Smitherman Kuzel died in her home Saturday, Aug. 22, 2020, after a brief illness surrounded by her family. 

With her giving spirit and deep love, Hazel touched the lives of everyone who crossed her path. 

We have lost our Beautiful Precious, our Southern Belle, but the Heavens and all who proceeded her in death, needed to grace our angel with her wings. 

Hazel was born at Crossroads in Milam County on Dec. 15, 1928, graduated high school in Calvert, and completed Central City Commercial College in Waco. 

Hazel was a lifelong member of the First Presbyterian Church in Cameron and asked in lieu of flowers, donations be sent to her church.

Hazel was preceded in death by husband, William E. Kuzel of Buckholts; parents, Brant and Lydia Smitherman of Calvert; three brothers and seven sisters; and grandson, Travis Walston. 

Hazel is survived by two children, Janice Walston of Calvert and Ernest “Trip” Walston of Medford, Ore., and their sister Sharon Walston Wilson; five grands, Paige Horelica, Faith Horelica Colopy, Amber Bryant, Dane Walston, and Tanya Cardenas; nine greats, Camdyn, Anyston, Berkley, Rowan, Payton, Colton, Isabelle, Shalean, and Jayden; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Hazel request that instead of flowers, please send contributions to First Presbyterian Church in Cameron, Texas. Where Hazel was a long time member.

Visitation will be held at Marek-Burns-Laywell Funeral Home, 2800 N. Travis Avenue in Cameron, on Aug. 28, 2020, from 5-7 p.m.

Graveside service and internment will be on Aug. 29, 2020, at 10 a.m. at Corinth Cemetery in Buckholts.
