Gladys Marie (Williams) Thompson

Gladys Marie (Williams) Thompson, 90, of Thorndale, passed away on Thursday morning at home.

She was born on Sept. 14, 1930, to her parents, Lynn Edward Williams and May Hoffman Williams in Sabine Pass.

After growing up in Sabine Pass, she met the love or her life on Nov. 4, 1958, and has spent everyday since with her beloved husband. They raised four wonderful sons together, and lived a life of military travel. They experienced 11 duty stations together.

She spent her time taking her boys to and from practices, which was time consuming since they all played on different teams. She was the most loving and devoted mother. She loved her boys more than life itself.

Gladys spent her spare time working beauty pageants. She trained a loving lady who became Ms. Kodiak, Ms. Alaska and on to The Miss America Pageant. She lived a spirit filled life and loved reading her bible and being in church.

After her husband retired from the military, they settled down in Friendswood, Texas. Her most cherished title was Grandma. She always had one of them with her. She had a helping hand in raising all seven grandchildren. She was overjoyed when she became a Great Grandma and loved when she saw her babies. They were all her babies.

Gladys is preceded in death by her parents, Lynn and May Williams; Brothers, Edward Roy, Lynn Edward, Ernest Kenneth and Walter Lee and a sister, Nell May Williams.

Surviving is her loving husband of 61 years, Durwood Vance Thompson of Thorndale; their sons, Benjamin Thompson of Thorndale, Woody Thompson of Thorndale, Lynn Thompson and wife Tonia of Thorndale and Robbie Thompson of Alvin; Her beloved grandchildren, Shelley Franklin and husband Jason, Eric Ryan and wife Jessica, David Thompson and wife Jocelyn, Brittany Beecham and husband Tim, Allan Thompson and wife Megan, Jessica Thompson and Josh Thompson; Great grandchildren, Darian, Bethany and Gage Franklin, Chase Ryan, Kobe and Elise Thompson, Madelynn and Ripken Beecham, Luke Thompson, and KB and Grace Summerlin, along with many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
