George “Butch” Malone Sr.

George “Butch” Malone Sr., age 80 of Minerva, passed away Thursday, March 12, 2020, in the Baylor Scott & White Hospital in Temple.

Services were held Monday, March 16, 2020, in the Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home Chapel in Rockdale with Bill Harris and Pastor Russell Thornburg officiating. Burial followed in the Minerva Cemetery in Minerva.

Butch, one of eleven children, was born Aug. 7, 1939, in Milam County to George Walter and Tommie (Kirk) Malone. On Dec. 28, 1956, he and Irene Strelsky were married in Cameron. He was a carpenter most of his life and was the owner of Malone Construction. He served as deacon at Battetown Baptist Church in Cameron and was a member of Minerva Volunteer Fire Department.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and seven sisters.

Surviving are his wife of 63 years, Irene Malone of Minerva; son, George Wesley Malone Jr. and wife Kristi of Minerva; daughter, Debbie Trylko and husband Paul of Pflugerville; sister, Dorothy Shoaf and husband Walter Rae of Liberty; four granddaughters, Heather Crystal Lewis and husband Brandon, Amber Dawn Paul, Tammy Trylko, and Elizabeth Hobson and husband Jeff; four great-grandsons, Bryson Richards, Kayden Lewis, Braden Lewis, and Brody Paul; along with numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

Pallbearers were George Malone, Paul Trylko, Bryson Richards, Kayden Lewis, Kenneth Kirk, Brandon Lewis, Jeff Hobson, Cliff Cryer. Honorary pallbearers were Walter Rae Shoaf, Richard Strelsky, Joe Strelsky, Tommy Dodds, David Stewart, Ernie Glenn, Henry Horelica, Mike Zelisco, Wesley Henson.
