Frances “Myrna” Walzel

Frances “Myrna” Walzel, 86, of Cameron, died Tuesday, Feb. 23, 2021, in a Cameron Nursing and Rehab facility.  

Graveside services will be at 4 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 28, 2021, at the Walzel Family Cemetery with Bill Harris officiating. A visitation will be held Saturday from 5-7 p.m. at Marek-Burns-Laywell Funeral Home in Cameron.

Mrs. Walzel was born Dec. 20, 1934, in the Vogelsang community to Frederick William and Frances Ella (Svetlik) Vogelsang. She was a Yoe High Class of 1952 and continued her education at Southwestern University and graduated with a major in education and minor in music. 

Her early teaching years were in Rosebud and Rogers but most of her career was spent at Cameron ISD. She was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church and worked as the church secretary, taught Sunday school classes and loved singing in the choir.  

She married Joseph Walzel on Nov. 26, 1933, and he preceded her in death in 2010. She was also preceded in death by her grandson, Josse Ray Walzel and a granddaughter, Candice Nicole Wise.   

She is survived by: sons, Curtis Byron Wise and wife Leslie of Flower Mound, Kyle Joe Walzel and wife Jennifer of Allen, and Joel William Walzel and wife Mandi of Cameron; daughters, Franci Joella Denio and husband Randy of Cameron and Dr. Amy Walzel Noble and husband Kenan of College Station; brothers, Ernest Vogelsang and wife Linda of Tanglewood, Iven Vogelsang and wife Joyce of Cameron, and James Vogelsang and wife Janice of the Vogelsang Community; sisters, Betsy Dorward and husband Russell of Clifton, and Mary Jane Bartlett and husband Jimmy of San Angelo; and 18 grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Marek-Burns-Laywell Funeral Home of Cameron is in charge of arrangements.
