Elyne Amanda (Niemtschk) Lehmann

Elyne Amanda (Niemtschk) Lehmann, 97 of Thorndale, was called home by our Heavenly Father on Sunday, Dec. 27, 2020.

Elyne was born Dec. 15, 1923, in Thorndale to Otto and Meta Niemtschk. She was baptized at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Thorndale on Jan. 27, 1924, and later confirmed in the Lutheran faith on March 21, 1937, also at St. Paul in Thorndale. She married Otto B. Lehmann of Thorndale on Nov. 27, 1940, in the home of her parents.

Elyne was an active, lifetime member of St. Paul in Thorndale and at the time of her death was the oldest member of her church family. Elyne shared her faith with the children in the congregation having served as a Sunday School teacher and was an active member in the LWML and served as the chairman of the Bereavement Committee for over 15 years.

Elyne was a true servant of God, showing her faith in many aspects, most importantly in the time she spent focused on reading her Bible and her devotions. Her servant heart spilled over to her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren as a loving and caring mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Elyne was also a faithful participant and leader in the monthly devotionals at the assisted living and nursing facilities in Taylor.

After the death of her husband, Elyne accomplished her GED while still raising her two youngest children at home as a single mom. Her love for cooking was shared while being employed with Thorndale ISD as part of the lunchroom staff. In her later years, she learned how to play the piano under the instruction of Emma Merz. Her favorite joy was spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Some of her favorite past times included reading her Bible, quilting, cooking, baking, playing scrabble, fishing, gardening, canning, enjoying an occasional beer and playing “42” dominoes and 31 (especially with her siblings).

She was preceded in death by her parents, Otto and Meta Niemtschk; her husband, Otto Lehmann; and her siblings, Beate Lehman, Justin Niemtschk, Erwin Niemtschk, Doris Kiesling, and Eldon Niemtschk; son-in-law, Robert Fortune; and one granddaughter.
