Betty Northcott

Betty Northcott, age 90 of Thorndale, passed from this life on the morning of Saturday, May 9, 2020, in the Renaissance Villa in Rockdale.

Services are scheduled for 1 p.m. Friday, May 15, 2020, at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale with Rev. Stephen Ammons officiating. Burial in the Locklin Cemetery in San Gabriel. Visitation is from 4-8 p.m. on Thursday, May 14, at the funeral home in Rockdale.

Betty was born in Granger on Jan. 30, 1930, to parents Herschel Alexander and Laura Blanche (Sedberry) Rogers. On March 25, 1949, she and W.E. “Gene” Northcott were married in the Methodist Church in Granger. She and Gene lived in Austin, Dallas, Wichita Falls and Denver, Colo., while he managed the Luby’s in those areas and she, the loving homemaker.

Before moving back to Thorndale, she worked as a secretary with the Texas Highway Department. They came to back to Thorndale in 1967 to farm with her brother, William Rogers. Once home, she went back to homemaking and making sure the farm was running smoothly and efficiently. Betty loved singing and was a fabulous cook and baker. She had served as church clerk and Sunday school teacher at San Gabriel Baptist Church and later placed their membership with Meadowbrook Baptist Church in Rockdale.

Betty was preceded in death by her loving husband of 70 years, Gene Northcott on Feb. 6, 2020; her parents, Herschel and Blanche Rogers; a sister, Nola Jordan; and three brothers, Wayne, William and Leroy Rogers.

Surviving are her children, Gary A. Northcott and wife Jenny of Thorndale and Diane Hernandez and husband Hector of Thorndale; three grandchildren, Chris Northcott and wife Paula, Crystal Wetter and husband Bobby, and Kelly Northcott and wife Selena; two step-grandchildren, Marcus Shelton and wife Traci and Nicholas Shelton; seven great-grandchildren, Kyle, Emily and Shane Northcott, Kobe, Bryant, Billy and Ally Wetter; three step-great-grandchildren, Barrett, Tatum and Everett Shelton; nephew, Phillip Rogers; niece, Rita Bowen; brother-in-law, Ray Barron and sister-in-law, Doris Carlson.

Serving as pallbearers are, Donald Barron, Kelly Northcott, Bobby Wetter, Kyle Northcott, Billy Carlson, and Lee Jenkins.

Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home of Rockdale is in charge of arrangements.
