Anastacio V. Vargas Jr.

Anastacio V. Vargas Jr., of Cameron, passed away on July 11, 2022, at the age of 75 in San Antonio. He was born Nov. 13, 1946, in Memphis, Texas, Anastacio Vargas, Sr. and Secundina Vasquez Vargas.

Anastacio was self-employed and operated a trucking business based in the Cameron area. His company transported harvested products for farmers all over the state of Texas.

On July 14, 1968, Anastacio married Elva Gloria Ruiz in Palito Blanco. They were three days away from celebrating their fifty-fourth wedding anniversary. Their marriage was blessed with three children and four grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife, Elva Vargas of San Antonio; children, Angel Vargas (Esther) of Cameron, Abraham Vargas of San Antonio, and Melinda Vargas of San Antonio; grandchildren, Brandon Vargas, Vincent Vargas, Selene Vargas, and Marco Vargas; siblings, Miguel Vargas (Alberta) of Cameron, Adela Corona of Cameron, Juan Vargas (Sylvia) of Cameron, Jose Vargas (Josie) of Rogers, and Elpidia Fenton (Frederick) of Scranton, Pennsylvania; numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

Anastacio was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Vicenta Nava, Pedro Vargas, Gilberto Vargas Sr., Anesimo Vargas Sr., Camilo Vargas, Sr., Aurora Juarez, Felicita Martinez, Adela Vargas, Guadalupe Vargas, Victoria Vargas, Maria Vargas, and Ezekiel Vargas; as well as numerous other relatives.

Visitation will be Monday, July 18, 2022, from 4-7 p.m. at Tondre-Guinn Funeral Home with the Holy Rosary recited at 5:30 p.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, July 19, 2022, at Our Lady of Grace Parish Hall in La Coste. Interment will follow at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Cemetery in La Coste.
