Vargas named District 10-3A defensive MVP

District 10-3A has announced its All-District honors for the 2019 season.

The District Coach of the Year went to Ronnie Porter who took Troy to a school record for wins and a district title. 

The District MVP went to Troy star running back Zach Hrbacek. Defensive MVP was Nico Vargas of Cameron while the Offensive MVP went to Rockdale star tailback Cam’ron Valdez. Newcomers on offense and defense went to Troy players Kadin Workman and Elijah Sunderman. 

The Yoemen had a number of players recognized as All-District selections. 

Named to the First Team were wideout and return man Zakorien Spikes; quarterback Braden Brashear; running back and linebacker Nico Vargas; wideout and defensive back Kobe Young; linemen Will Scott, Dominic Lewis, and Eduardo Gil; linebacker Patrick England; and defensive backs Thomas Melton and Calvin Stewart. 

Second Team selections were James Debose, Patrick England, Thomas Melton, Jaidyn Sanchez, Richie Acosta, Brayden Holloman, Domanique Borgas, Kendall Fincher, Cade Mars, Heath Hollas, and Zane Zeinert. 

Named Honorable Mention were Trenton Nix, Fabian Salomon, Iverson Braziel, Davioun Scott, Pharrel Hemphill, Eduardo Gil, Garfield England, and Axel Martinez. 

Several players were also Academic All-District including Richie Acosta, Brashear, Kendall Fincher, Juan Hernandez, Heath Hollas, Hunter Hux, Axel Martinez, Simbad Milan, Trenton Nix, Zane Zeinert.

Four Yoemen were named to the Texas High School Coaches Association’s Academic All-State Team.

Braden Brashear and Heath Hollas were named First Team and Juan Hernandez and Simbad Millan were named Honorable Mention.
