Cameron man charged with trafficking

A Cameron man is in custody on charges of trafficking and solicitation. According to Milam County Sheriff Chris White, the Milam County Sheriff’s Office and the Texas Attorney General’s Child Exploitation Unit have obtained warrants for the arrest of Evan Elon Webber, 31, of Cameron. Webber has been charged for compelling prostitution, trafficking a child/engaging in sexual conduct, both first-degree felonies; and online solicitation of a minor, a third-degree felony. The MCSO case stems from an outcry made to a school resource deputy, while the OAG case started from a cyber-tip posted to their online tip reporting system. White said statements taken from the child indicated that on more than one occasion, the child was enticed by Webber to engage in sexual activities for money and/or alcohol. “After we reviewed the statements and evidence and concluded that we could file the first-degree felony charge of trafficking due to the elements of the case,” White said. “It was clear that Webber ‘obtained’ the child through coercion and further ‘compelled’ the child to engage in prostitution.” White said Webber was located and arrested Friday morning, Feb. 1, in Oklahoma and is expected to be extradited back to Texas this week.
