Two injured in Sunday shooting

Two people were injured after a late night shooting in Cameron on Sunday.

Cameron Police responded about 11:20 p.m. Sunday, April 25, to reports of shots fired in the 1500 block of West 10th in Cameron.

Officers arrived to find two people suffering from gunshot wounds - 23-year-old Carolton Braziel of Cameron and 22-year-old Tionie Thompson of Hearne.

Cameron Police Chief Lonnie Gosch said Braziel was shot in the back and Thompson in the left knee. Police treated both victims at the scene until medical help arrived. The pair were then rushed to the hospital in Temple.

Investigators determined that several shots were fired indiscriminately by two groups of people shooting at each other, ending with two people shot.

Gosch said several types of firearms appear to have been used as officers recovered shell casings for 9mm, 40 caliber, and .223 caliber. A total of 57 shell casings were recovered at the scene.

Several vehicles parked in the area were also struck by gunfire.
