Tuesday morning wreck claims life of woman

A North Carolina woman is dead after a major accident on FM 485 Tuesday morning.

Texas Department of Public Safety troopers, Milam County deputies, Cameron Volunteer Fire Department, and AMR all responded about 6:30 a.m. to the 4000 block of FM485 for a major accident.

DPS Sgt. Bryan Washko said a 2016 Chevy 2500 pickup towing a trailer and operated by a 30-year-old Houston man was westbound on FM 485 when the driver attempted to pass in a no passing zone on a hill crest and struck an eastbound 2019 Mitsubishi Mirage passenger car driven by a 22-year-old Arizona man head-on.

A passenger in the Mitsubishi, identified as 22-year-old Mallory Regina Shaw of North Carolina, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The highway was shutdown between the FM 485 and US 77 and FM 2269 and FM 485 intersections while crews worked that scene Tuesday morning.

No other details have been released at this time.

This is the sixth death and fourth fatal crash on Milam County roadways this year.

There were two other wrecks that shut down roadways on Tuesday in Milam County.

Milam County Sheriff Mike Clore said US 190 was closed at the railroad underpass between Buckholts and Rogers when a pair of 18-wheelers collided about 9:30 a.m.

About 6:15 p.m. US 79 was shut down again in the 3000 block near CR 264 after a two-vehicle crash. There were no injuries in the later accident.
