Rockdale teacher indicted by grand jury for improper relationship

Shawnee Nicole Despain, 24, of Rockdale, was indicted by the Milam County Grand Jury on Nov. 16, 2023, for 2nd Degree Felony, Improper Relationship Between Educator/Student and for 3rd Degree Felony, Possession of Child Pornography.

The Milam County District Attorney’s Office has taken decisive action in response to a concerning case involving alleged misconduct by a former educator in our community with a 17 year old student. 

After a thorough investigation conducted by Rockdale Police Department, we have indicted the teacher, Shawnee Despain.  The investigation of this matter continues with potential additional charges. 

“Our office places the highest priority on protecting our community, particularly our youth,” Milam County District Attorney Bill Torrey said. “Cases of alleged misconduct involving minors demand our upmost attention and diligent pursuit of justice. Our office will strongly prosecute cases involving any form of exploitation or misconduct. We encourage anyone with information relevant to this case or similar matters to reach out to our office or the Rockdale Police Department.” 

First Assistant District Attorney, Brian Price, is handling the prosecution of these cases.
