Milam Community Theater to present Aladdin Jr. in two performances

The Milam Community Theater is busy practicing for its April production of the musical Aladdin Jr.

Since there were over 80 kids that auditioned for the production there will be two separate casts, the Iago and Jafar casts.

The Iago cast will be performing Friday and Saturday, April 9 and 10, at 6 p.m. and Sunday, April 11, at 3 p.m.

The Jafar cast will be performing Friday and Saturday, April 16-17 at 6 p.m, and Sunday, April 18, at 3 p.m.

Tickets are now available online. You may wait and pay at the door, but they are limited to 110 tickets per show, and typically in the past they shows have sold out of all of children’s performances. It is recommended that you buy tickets ahead of time just to ensure you get tickets. Children three and under are free. You can also purchase tickets at the box office at milamcommunitytheater.com .

The show takes place in the city of Agrabah as Aladdin, a poor street urchin spends his time stealing food from the marketplace with his friends Babkak, Omar, and Kassim. His adventures begin when he meets a young girl, Jasmine, who happens to be a princess. Jasmine is being forced to be married off to another prince by her father, the Sultan, who is clearly agitated by Jasmine’s refusal to toe the line.

Aladdin’s luck suddenly changes when he retrieves a magical lamp from a place called the Cave of Wonders. What he accidentally gets is a fun-loving and wacky genie who only wishes to have his freedom. Little do they know that the Sultan’s sinister advisor, Jafar, and his bird, Iago, have their own plans for Jasmine, Aladdin, and the lamp.

Concessions will be sold before show and during intermission. The proceeds go towards scholarships for graduating seniors. There are four seniors this year and many next year. Candygrams will also be sold before show and during intermission.

There will also be a breakfast/brunch with the characters April 3 at the Williams Event Center. The cost is $10 per attendee. Reserve your spot today at milamcommunitytheater.com. The Iago Cast Breakfast is from 9:30-11 a.m. and the Jafar Cast Brunch is from 11:30-1 p.m.
