Garden Club pansy sale going on until Oct. 19

The Fleur-de-Lis Garden Club is in full swing with its annual sale of pansies and snapdragons. The only thing different this year is that we will follow covid restrictions carefully.

These beautiful blooms will brighten up your yard with color from winter to late spring.  Our sales income will support a Yoe scholarship next spring  to some lucky  senior planning to enter a horticultural related field. Please see our beautiful sale flyer on the Cameron Chamber of Commerce website, at chamber@comeron-tx.com

Now is the time to order flats of yellow pansies, multi-color pansies and multi-color snapdragons. Call Sue at (254) 482-1856 or Linda at (575) 649-8315 or any  Garden Club member.

Flats are now  $16, pre-paid and each flat contains 18 small plants, getting ready to bloom. Final orders must be placed by Monday, Oct. 19. You will pick up your flats on Saturday, Nov. 7, from 8-9:30 a.m. in Cameron on the historic downtown square by the Milam County Courthouse.

While you’re waiting for delivery day on Nov. 7, you can prepare your garden bed by digging up the soil, adding compost and perhaps fresh soil. Each little plant’s root system will be about 3” deep so loosen your soil down to that depth. You may also want to have some flower plant fertilizer on hand to use when you plant.

As you take your new plants home on Nov. 7 and nudge them out of the nursery pot, you may find a fine layer of close-knit roots at the bottom of the root ball.  Use your fingers to pinch or a small knife to slice those snarled roots away from the root ball. Now you’re ready to plant it. Cover the roots firmly with soil, water in and mulch. Give these new babies some water twice a week until you see the plant growing and blooming. Then taper off watering to weekly, depending on the rain we may get. Enjoy these cheery floral companions during the gray, cool days of winter!
