COVID UPDATE: COVID deaths climb, vaccinations continue

Milam County added three more deaths from COVID-19 and vaccinated over 300 people on Thursday.

"Today was another sad day for Milam County as I regret to advise of three more deaths in Milam County,” County Judge Steve Young said. “We now have 28 COVID related deaths in Milam County since the pandemic started. This makes 10 deaths in the last 10 days.”

It was also a great day for vaccinations in the county.

“Today was a great day for our vaccination program in Milam County,” Young said. “Today, we set a record for the most done in the county in one day at 317 vaccinations! This was simply huge. I cannot say enough good things about the 20 volunteers who came out today to participate in the vaccinations. We just could not do this without the work of these caring, dedicated individuals who are out there working to keep us safe and secure.”

Today (Friday, Jan. 29) the county will provide second round vaccinations for 31 individuals at the Milam County Health Department. This is all by appointment only. This is the first round of second round shots.

“We will do a lot more of these next week,” he said. “Those that are to be given second round shots will be contacted by phone with regard to their appointment time.”

Young said he doesn’t know how many first round doses he county will get for next week, but he should know sometimes today, but whatever they get will be administered next week.

Please call (254) 697-7000 or email Amy Guillen at aguillen@milamcounty.net to get on the vaccination list. Once on the list, the county will call to schedule your appointment, when it is your turn. There are almost 2,400 people on the list at this time.
